OCS Inventory: Free software, sustainable project

OCS Inventory is, and will remain, free and open source. This page explains what that means concretely, who keeps the project alive, and how organizations can get professional help while supporting the project.

### A free, fully open product

OCS Inventory is released as open source software and is 100% free of charge. There is no limited community edition.

The software you download is the complete product. It includes unlimited agents, the full feature set, and access to the plugin ecosystem.

Report bugs and request features through our [GitHub organization](https://github.com/OCSInventory-NG). Issues and pull requests are the primary way the project evolves. Contributions are welcome.

This documentation evolves continuously and aims to cover every software feature. Community support is also available.

If you can run and maintain OCS Inventory yourself, you never have to pay. This choice is central to the project.

### An active, available community

OCS Inventory has supported IT teams worldwide for two decades. Its community offers valuable experience and resources:

* A public forum for configurations, troubleshooting, and real-world experience.
* Public discussions and issue tracking on GitHub.
* Accumulated knowledge across the documentation, wiki, and community contributions.

{% hint style="info" %}
Note : our community support don't come with any warranty and is not meant to support large scale and production infrastructure.
{% endhint %}

This model suits many teams. Organizations needing guarantees can choose a professional offer.

### A bit of history

OCS Inventory is a long-running open source project with over 20 years of IT and asset inventory history.

[FactorFX](https://www.factorfx.com) has been the main developer and steward since 2015. The French Gendarmerie Nationale had driven the project for years. It transferred the project to a private actor to secure its future.

Since then, FactorFX has maintained the codebase, coordinated releases and security fixes, and developed relevant IT and asset inventory features.

Professional services fund the open source project. When an organization chooses a professional offer, it supports OCS Inventory's maintenance and future. It helps keep OCS Inventory free for everyone.

### Need help or dedicated OCS Inventory expertise?

OCS Inventory does not directly provide enterprise or business support. This is not the role of an open source foundation.

FactorFX does. As the solution editor, FactorFX offers professional services for organizations needing guarantees, expertise, or a managed environment.

The same team develops the product and provides the support. You get direct access to the people who build OCS Inventory.

Consider a professional offer if you need:

* Fast contractual response times and a guaranteed SLA.
* Expert guidance to use OCS Inventory to its full potential.
* Support for large fleets, sensitive environments, or air-gapped networks.
* Direct access to developers and experts, including video calls.
* A fully managed platform operated by the editor.

### The professional offer at a glance

FactorFX offers support for on-premise deployments and fully managed SaaS platforms. All supported offers include level 1, 2, and 3 support with a contractual SLA.

#### OCS Pro: supported on your infrastructure

* Multi-level support and a contractual SLA.

#### Complementary services

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://documentation.ocsinventory-ng.org/project-overview/enterprise-support.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
