# Inventory Synchronization

The synchronization is an automated action that fetches virtual machines and containers from the **Proxmox API** and creates or updates them as OCS assets.

Automated actions are scripts stored in a specific location on the server's file system. They are executed using Django's built-in management commands, according to a defined schedule.

Each automated action consists of:

* a scheduler entry, which defines its status and how often it runs.
* a script, located in the designated directory and following the required naming and format conventions.
* a cron job (or similar system scheduler) that triggers execution of the management command at the scheduled interval.

From **Configuration → General → Automated actions**, you can view each automated action's last execution date, status, and recurrence interval, and access its execution history.

## Default automated actions

* **Proxmox Inventory synchronization**: synchronizes Proxmox asset inventories.

## Executing automated actions

By default, the **Proxmox Inventory** automated action runs every day at 2 AM GMT.

### One-time run

Automated actions are executed using a dedicated Django management command. To launch the process manually from the OCS backend directory:

```bash
python3 manage.py automation
```

To run the **Proxmox Inventory** task immediately, bypassing its configured recurrence, use the `--force` flag.

```bash
python3 manage.py automation --force proxmoxInventory.ProxmoxInventory
```

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://documentation.ocsinventory-ng.org/ocs-inventory-v3-extensions/proxmox-api/inventory-synchronization.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
