# Security

Getting OCS Inventory Server production-ready takes a few additional steps beyond the base installation. The pages below cover what you need to configure before running the server in a production environment.

| Page                                                                                        | What it covers                                                                                                                                                              |
| ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| [Securing OCS with SSL](/administrator-docs/server-setup/security/securing-ocs-with-ssl.md) | Configure HTTPS for your OCS Inventory Server installation, so traffic to and from the server is encrypted. |
| [Encryption Key](/administrator-docs/server-setup/security/encryption-key.md) | How OCS Inventory Server encrypts sensitive configuration values (LDAP bind password, OIDC client secret) at rest, and how to check, back up, or rotate the encryption key. |

{% hint style="info" %}
These two pages address different layers: SSL protects data as it travels to and from the server, while the encryption key protects specific sensitive values once they're stored in the database.
{% endhint %}

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://documentation.ocsinventory-ng.org/administrator-docs/server-setup/security.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
