# Installation methods

There's more than one way to get OCS Inventory Server up and running, depending on your environment and how much control you want over the setup. The pages below cover the supported approaches.

| Page                                                                                                                     | What it covers                                                                                            |
| ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ | --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| [Using Official Repositories](/administrator-docs/server-setup/installation-methods/using-official-repositories.md) | Install OCS Inventory Server from the official RPM/DEB repositories, using your system's package manager. |
| [Running OCS Inventory Server with Docker](/administrator-docs/server-setup/installation-methods/docker-installation.md) | Deploy the full server stack (backend, frontend, database) using the official Docker images. |
| [Securing OCS with SSL](/administrator-docs/server-setup/security/securing-ocs-with-ssl.md) | Configure HTTPS for your OCS Inventory Server installation, whichever method you used to install it. |

{% hint style="info" %}
The Docker and repository installation methods are two independent ways to get the server running - pick whichever fits your infrastructure. Securing OCS with SSL is a follow-up step that applies afterward, regardless of which installation method you chose.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://documentation.ocsinventory-ng.org/administrator-docs/server-setup/installation-methods.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
